The Meaning of AMI
Our name, the AMI Center (pronounced Mercaz AMI in Hebrew), has a significant double meaning in the Hebrew language. First, in Hebrew AMI means “My people”. Secondly, it is an acronym based on the Hebrew letters of the term AMI. The first letter in AMI is “A” which refers to the Hebrew word “Am”, meaning “People”. The second letter, “M”, represents the word “Mikra” which means Tanakh (“Scriptures”). And lastly, the letter “I” represents the word “Israel” which of course is referring to the land of Israel.
These three words describe the miracles of both ancient and modern Israel. First, is the miracle of God gathering from all the nations the reborn people of Israel. Second, is the incredible miracle of God fulfilling His word for us to witness first hand. Finally, the land of Israel is a miracle of restoration including the deserts blooming and the cities being rebuilt. These three words also capsulize our love for Israel, its people, and the scriptures.
