Our Hope is anchored in God’s Word: What has God said in His Word
about the Jewish people and the land of Israel? What promises and
covenants has God made to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob? Every Christian will be blessed to not only know these scriptures
but recognize their fulfillment in this time we live, and to use them as the
basis of our prayer for Israel.
In the previous studies, we saw in the scriptures God’s covenant with
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel). God promised them the land of
Canaan and even described the boundaries of the land He promised. In
Deuteronomy the Lord explained to Israel that when they obey Him, they
would be blessed and when they turn away from Him, they will experience
curses. Further, He would discipline them and let them be scattered to all
the nations. He then promises to Israel that as they turn to Him, He will
gather them to the land He promised to them, and He will circumcise their
hearts so they will love Him with all their hearts and souls. He will also
prosper them abundantly and rejoice over them for good.
Deut. 30:4-11,14 NASB 1995: God will gather Israel, circumcise their
hearts, and abundantly prosper them. Think about this! In the Torah
God has said He will sanctify (separate) Israel to Himself and now
over 3,000 years later He is gathering them back to the land He
promised them. This is unheard of in human history that a people who
were scattered to many nations, kept their separate identity for
millennium, and returned to their homeland. This shows God’s power
and faithfulness to fulfill His word.
Then God says something very interesting. He said that His
commandments are not too difficult, because the word is very near
you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it. Does
His Word empower us to be obedient and walk in His ways?
4  “If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth, from there the LORD your
God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back.  5  The LORD your
God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you
shall possess it; and He will prosper you and multiply you more than your

fathers. 6  Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the
heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart
and with all your soul, so that you may live.  7  The LORD your God will inflict
all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who
persecuted you.  8  And you shall again obey the LORD, and observe all His
commandments which I command you today.  9  Then the LORD your God
will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of
your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your
ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced
over your fathers;  10  if you obey the LORD your God to keep His
commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law, if
you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. 11  “For this
commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is
it out of reach.  12  It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up to
heaven for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe
it?’  13  Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross the sea
for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?’  14  But the
word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may
observe it.”
Deut. 33:27 NASB 1995: Moses wrote that “the eternal God is a
dwelling place” intending for the sons of Israel to experience this
deep mystical relationship with the Almighty. In Ps. 90:1 Moses wrote
“Lord, Thou has been our dwelling place for all generations”. Is this a
promise that is available today for those whose trust is in the Lord?
Ps. 91:1-2
27  “The eternal God is a dwelling place,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;
And He drove out the enemy from before you…”
